Trevor Garfield toimii opettajana Brooklynin kovilla kulmilla, ja joutuu puukotuksen uhriksi. Hän selviää hengissä ja jatkaa työtään Los Angelesissa. Edessä on kuitenkin sama ongelma: väkivallan uhka on kaiken aikaa läsnä koulussa. Puolet Trevorin luokasta kuuluu jengeihin, kuvioissa pyörivät huumeet ja aseet.
