上个世纪的三十年代，兵来匪往的荒野中，非常不和谐地行走着几位自带行李铺盖卷、背着测量仪器考察古建筑的学者。从1932年到1937年仅六年间，中国营造学社社员的足迹遍及河北、山西、陕西等地。他们测绘整理了200多组分布于各地的建筑群，完成测绘图稿1898张，留下了一套研究中国建筑的科学完备的稀世珍宝。在林徽因的一生中，这也是一段最快乐的时光。亲情，友谊，思索，创作……一切都在她的笔下盛开。也是在这一阶段，他们生命中最重要的朋友费正清夫妇走进了他们的生活。1937年7月，梁思成林徽因迎来了他们人生道路上最辉煌的一刻，他们发现了梦寐以求的唐代木构建筑——五台山佛光寺。 然而，也正是从这一天开始，他们的命运开始逆转…
